As the Memorial Day holiday fast approaches, we must all reflect upon what this commemoration is really all about. Libertarian Randolph Bourne long ago observed that “War is the health of the State.” Tomorrow this ringing martial admonition, our true national motto, will be shouted and proclaimed “from sea to shining sea” as those who glory in senseless death and destruction again remind us of its sanctity and hallowed character.
