Trump is “mindless entertainment,” so he’ll win, says the latest pomposity, preening his insulted ego with disdain.
Hardly a head-turner. But the writer won’t dare analyze intelligently the causes of the malaise of the masses which he pretends to identify so adroitly.
Because doing so, he would quickly contradict himself, and conclude that his lifelong leftism is based on a lie that has demeaned and diminished the common man, all in the name of “progress.”
And suddenly he finds that the democracy produced by the squalor that he and his fellow elitists have spawned has produced not the noble citizen, but the mindless savage.
Note: His coy mind game preserves his claim to superiority (a must), but flies against both reality and his own ideological assertions.
He is left with the lingering aroma exuded so artfully by the failed liberal: Ressentiment …
