Too Little, Too Late

Three thousand churches in California will reinstate services:

California entered phase 2 of its reopening plan Friday, but that excluded houses of worship being able to hold in-person services. … California Church United, a network of 3,000 California churches, representing 2.5 million members, announced it plans to open May 31, instead of waiting until the state implements phase 3, which includes allowing modified reopening of houses of worship.

Well and good, and I hate to quibble—but why did they ever close? Where have they been the last three months while the world was hurting and dying and in desperate need of heroes to defy unjust and tyrannical nonsense?

“Our churches are part of the answer, not part of the problem,” Danny Carroll, senior pastor at Water of Life Community Church, said … “We’re an essential part of this whole journey and we’ve been bypassed … kicked to the curb and deemed nonessential,” he added.

What else did you expect from the godless State, buddy? And why did you yield to despotism?

Meanwhile, Comrade Nuisance–uh, Newsome (hey, it’s an easy mistake)—prattled, “Our fear is simply this … Congregations of people from far and wide coming together in a closed space at a large scale remains a point of concern and anxiety for us.”

Oh, get a grip.

“We are working on guidelines for physical distancing and working with faith leaders…”

“Faith leaders.” Boy, I hate jargon. “Clergy,” you nincompoop, “clergy.”

At any rate, “nonprofit organization[s]” such as Liberty Counsel and the Center for American Liberty are eager to “help” churches recover their gonads. I guess Scriptural commands to trust the Lord and eschew fear just aren’t enough anymore.

The center created an online petition for citizens to voice their opposition to the governor. In part, it states, “We demand that Governor Newsom and Attorney General Becerra reclassify Houses of Worship as ‘essential’, provided that they practice the same social distancing and safety measures expected of other essential institutions.

Whatever happened to truth? How is it that churches have left facts and reality so far behind? Again they wave the white flag as they collaborate with the State and pretend that smallpox–sorry, coronavirus is the deadliest plague ever to afflict humanity.

Nuisance babbled,

“I take very seriously those concerns about people of faith”–

Christians, you nincompoop.

— and I’m very sensitive to those who want to get back to church. But the health of those communities is foundational.”

There it is: another outright endorsement of idolatry. “Public health” is “foundational,” superseding the Church, not to mention liberty and all else we hold dear.

And yet until now, most Christians have piously cooperated with this evil. Why? (Thanks to Andreatta Geerdes for alerting me to this story.)
