They Missed a Trick: Gifts Are Not Taxed

Mr. Anonymous

saw your post … about the NY business owner who had nine people over to his restaurant.

I was infuriated that he had to shut down and had to open secretly.

I dashed off a letter to Governor Cuomo and told him he was a despicable vile rat.  And that he lives in splendor while business people cannot feed their families.  I called him a tyrant and an oppressor.  A loathsome man.

Indeed, he’s all that and more. Nauseating, utterly evil, selfish, universally despised…

I hope the owner of that place does not pay taxes on the money he got from his patrons.  As far as I could tell any money he received was in the form of gifts.  And gifts are not taxable.

The governor of Virginia told my barber to shut down over covid earlier this spring.  Now, everytime I pay him, I tell him not to pay taxes on the money and that it is an untaxable gift.  He thanks me and tells me that another one of his clients does the same thing.

Gifting people money in cash is the way we stop this tax insanity.
