Regarding the NYT article on blaming recruiting problems on hazing and abuse, I must object with the Army’s reasoning. The number one reason why recruiting is down big time is because we’re caught in a big muddy. First, being from one of the toughest battalions in Marine recruit training (3rd BN: all of my drill instructors combat MOS 200lb muscle machines) I can attest I’ve seen no abuse, and the hazing was never all that bad (nothing like torture).
