are found in men and women who have been conditioned to have no sense of individual purpose or meaning, and who are willing to identify themselves with the collective as a substitute. Such is the mindset of the kamikaze pilot – of whatever nation – who deludes himself with the belief that when he gets blown to pieces on the battlefield on behalf of the state, he is sharing in the “exceptional” nature of the system.
