The Press on a Leash

Someone sent me a headline from some news source that read: “Hillary keeps Reporters on a Tight Leash.” What else would you expect from the relationship between politicians and their lap-dog stenographers reporters? H.L. Mencken is the image that comes to mind when I think of a genuine “journalist.” I cannot imagine such a man being kept “on a leash” by any gang of politicos; I cannot even envision him following any politician around, like a Pavlovian canine, waiting for some little well-rehearsed tidbit to fall from his/her hand. Indeed, real journalists could do their work just as effectively – perhaps more so – from their offices, reading, analyzing, and researching what the politicians are doing or saying.

“On a leash?” Where else would you expect the bootlicking toadies to be kept?
