The GOP Cronies Reel At The “Stench” of the Vulgar Masses

Cheneyite and waterboarding champion Bret Stephens, speaking for all war profiteers, is offended by the “stench” of the “vulgarians” who hate the Establishment in whose pantheon Rupert Murdoch and his worldwide allies occupy a revered shrine.

From a strictly business point of view, what manufacturer wouldn’t like to have a corner on the market for a multimillion product that the buyer will destroy within a couple of weeks, so you can sell him another one?

Only at the Pentagon.

I have a couple of former acquaintances who are successful “policy” neocons in the war party. I asked them whether they would be happier if peace were at hand: would they be satisfied to live at $100,000 a year in a peaceful world and have time to spend with their families and friends?

Well, I didn’t get a peaceful answer.

But wait, there’s more. Erick Erickson names names of the ripoff artists that thrive in another Crony Class that has a corner on the domestic market – GOP consultants.

I remember a conversation that took place at Ronald Reagan’s funeral (us peons had to arrive two hours early):

Hack #1: “I’m heading to President Bush’s birthday party tomorrow in Texas. Are you going?”

Hack #2: “Nah, we made a million on that contract, but it’s over.”

GOP R.I.P.

[n.b.: Reagan’s state funeral was held on June 11, 2004. George H.W. Bush turned 80 on June 12]

And who else does?
