I well remember when the Soviet Union finally keeled over, to the anguish of the US military-industrial complex. Bush the First immediately sent vast teams of bribing-threatening bureaucrats to Eastern Europe, Russia, etc. to make sure they did not establish free markets nor pare their governments too much. China, remaining officially Communist, has never been the recipient of US beneficience.
