The Coming Impeachment

The House is going to impeach Trump. Trump’s adversaries have aimed at impeachment from the moment he was elected and before. This is the climax, the culmination, of years of work by anti-Trump lawyers, years of fabricating a false alternate reality, years of spinning negative stories far and wide, years of propaganda in the media. There will be many articles of impeachment. The document will be weighty and impressive, although filled from cover to cover with lies and falsehoods.

For a taste of what it will contain, see this law review article available in pdf. This article goes into 9 different grounds for impeaching Trump:

i. Obstructing Justice
ii. Violating the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution
iii. Emoluments Case Against Donald Trump
iv. Conspiring with Others to Commit Crimes Against the United States
v. Advocating Violence and Undermining Equal Protection Under the Law
vi. Abusing the Pardon Power
vii. Conduct that Grossly Endangers the Peace and Security of the United States
viii. Directing Law Enforcement to Investigate and Prosecute Political Adversaries
ix. Undermining the Freedom of the Press

These articles will look and sound as if they invoke an actual reality, but they will be a work of fiction, an artifice. The cited article is an early-bird special, showing us what to expect from Democrats in the House, namely, nonsense, nonsense and more nonsense. For example, racism will be a charge claimed to be supported by statements about what Trump said or did not say about Charlottesville. His actual statements and their timing will be ignored. This will be strung together with his border and immigration policies to argue that he’s undermining the equal protection under the law.

Every charge against him will find such so-called “support” by phony trickster devices. His firing of Comey will be treated as obstruction of justice, rather than the correct move it was in view of Comey’s conspiracy against him.

Democrats are going to ignore mountains of evidence. They are going to misinterpret and misunderstand Trump from A to Z. They are going to sell the theme that they are doing a duty to guard against abuse of power. This article has the nerve to look for support in statements made in The Federalist, for example. Clever lawyers can build a case against Jesus Christ.

The indictment of Trump will be a case study in injustice or how to concoct a case and prosecute someone when the evidence not only is lacking but cuts in the opposite direction, covering up the guilt of the accusers.

One obstacle to truth in this case is the three-year history of false accusations that has built up a pseudo-conventional wisdom. For example, it’s widely “accepted” or assumed that the Russians hacked the DNC, even though the FBI never examined their servers, even though Mueller didn’t even address this most fundamental of questions, even though Assange has denied that Russians were the source, and even though there is evidence that a DNC staffer downloaded material. However, this baseless acceptance of the Russians as culprits is precisely one of the matters that Trump wants to have investigated, because it is one of the root matters that caused him and his campaign to be accused of collusion with Russia and Russians. Yet his every move to get to the bottom of it has been the occasion for his enemies to accuse him of one or more abuses of power.
