The Backlash Builds

I know that Republicans would love Bushcare, and indeed did love it, or, at best, ignore it. I know they would love having Bush give a Dear Leader speech to all the children imprisoned in public schools. Still, it is fun, and useful, to see all the brouhaha over the pharaoh addressing his future pyramid builders. Here is a letter from the principal of a local elementary school to  parents (no need to read beyond the first paragraph, since no such bureaucrat can write):

Good Morning, I wanted to keep you all informed regarding the President’s speech that is scheduled to air on Tuesday at 12:00. I sent all of you an e-mail regarding this event yesterday. As you would expect, I am receiving a great deal of “feedback” from parents regarding the speech. Both sides are being very vocal.

I have decided in order to accommodate the students that would like to view the speech, each team will offer viewing the speech in the social studies rooms. The other students will be with the other team teachers participating in an “alternate” educational activity. PLEASE discuss with your teams what you could “offer” in the other rooms for the students to still be engaged in learning. Students will choose if they want to participate. If during the speech they wish to leave and attend another activity, they may do so.

If your students are off team during this time (12:00 9/8/08) they may attend their exploratory class or attend the speech viewing in the social studies room, again, their choice. If it is your planning, you may rotate a teacher in and out to supervise…We can help as well.

Translation: so many parents have protested, and so vociferously, about the caudillo’s oration, and threatened to keep their children out of school, that they need not go to the speech. Good start, parents. Government really does depend on the consent of the governed. Withdraw that consent, and your children too.
