The American’s Creed

Once upon a time students were well acquainted with The American’s Creed. It was a bedrock statement of the principles which defined the philosophical essence and aspirations of the United States. It was recited at school assemblies, and a parchment copy presented to high school graduates, often by their congressman/congresswoman. I still have my copy presented to me in 1970 by Congressman Page Belcher. How many students in school districts across the nation today from coast to coast still recite The American’s Creed, or are even aware of its existence? Why is this so? What has happened in five decades in eroding this self-confident affirmation and inner spirit of patriotic dedication among Americans?
