This Thanksgiving I caught most of a History Channel special on the entrepreneurs who created the modern “fast food” industry. The special told the tale of entrepreneurs like the McDonald brothers and Ray Kroc, Mr. Bell (who was inspired by the McDonald brothers to start his own hamburger stand until he created a way to deep-fry taco shells), Dave Thomas, and of course, Colonel Sanders who, at an age when most are winding down their careers, created the modern concept of franchising by selling the right to offer his Fried Chicken to restaurants across the country.
