Speaking of dumb soldiers, a teacher in Texas writes to say that at her high school, during commencement every year, the entire audience gives a standing ovation to the students who have enlisted in the military. She says that the majority of the students who enlist are in special Ed, too academically low to pass the Texas state assessments, but they do just fine on the ASVAB. The recruiters, she adds, hang around these low-level kids and promise them the world.
