Long-time Rothbardian and fan of LRC, Justin Nguyen, is launching a “campaign” he’s dubbed “Recycle Revolution” that “takes food waste and converts it into stable animal food using a special kind of fly.” Yes, fly, as in “insect.”

I admit that when Justin first emailed me about his project, I wanted some of whatever he’s smoking. So I looked up his Wonder Bug, the “black soldier fly,” and discovered that no, this is on the up-and-up. Justin’s looking for funding and thought LRC’s readers would be especially interested in his project for a couple of reasons:

1. “Social” problem solved via free market — Nguyen Solutions is driven to solve the so-called social or global problem of growing food waste via a purely market solution.
2. Competes with state solution — Nguyen Solutions mounts a direct challenge to the monopoly of the state- sponsored waste management.

I’ve asked Justin if, once the black soldier flies have solved the “global problem of … food waste,” they could convert the TSA, the biggest waste of all, into something productive. He’s promised that’ll be next–and then, onto the IRS, the NSA, CIA, FBI, EPA…
