Slim Whitman dead at 90

Slim Whitman, country music mega-artist, has died. He is probably best known to people of my generation for saving the earth from the Martian invasion in the 1996 film Mars Attacks! , in which it is discovered that his music makes the heads of martians explode.

The use of Whitman is politically significant, by the way, as Whitman’s weaponized music represents the triumph of grassroots resistance over the incompetent elites.

Paul Cantor explains it all in his book, The Invisible Hand in Popular Culture, which discusses the film in detail.
