I note your interesting to and fro with David Gordon over the correct name for what is commonly referred to as the “American Civil War”.
Let me make a suggestion. We should call the American Revolutionary War the “First War of Secession”, and then the American Civil War the “Second War of Secession”. These labels would be factually accurate, and would also express the philosophical linkage between the two conflagrations, a linkage over which I’m sure many in the mainstream would squirm. Which makes these labels even more useful.

Dear SG:
A very good suggestion. Both, indeed, are examples of secession. When, oh when, will there be a third secession, hopefully without any war. There is now Brexit. Maybe, one of these days, there will be Vexit (for Vermont), or Texit (for Texas or Tennessee), or Lexit (for Louisiana). After that WEBexit (for Walter E. Block) and millions more. No, billions. Secession down to the individual level! Let’s have 7 billion sovereign countries, one for each of us.
