I doubt that Ron Paul is as disappointed as some of his supporters seem to be about New Hampshire. Barry Goldwater, Jr. was travelling with Ron in New Hampshire. Barry Sr. and Nelson Rockefeller were the McCain and Romney of their day at that point of the election cycle, and one of them was expected to be the “shoe-in” in the primary. They both lost out to write-in candidate Henry Cabot Lodge.
Barry Sr. went on, of course, to win the GOP nomination. And then, as the old story goes, “We were told that if we voted for Goldwater the war in Vietnam would escalate. Well, they were right. I voted for Goldwater and the war did escalate.”
