During the early 1980s, when there were still a few genuine, limited-government conservatives in D.C., one of their political war cries was “Defund the Left!” During the Carter administration hundreds of millions of dollars in tax money was doled out to hundreds of private “nonprofit” organizations that illegally used much of the money to simply lobby for bigger government.
