This is an excellent review by Professor Gutzman of one of the latest collections of lame excuses and rationales for the Lincoln Dictatorship: Daniel Farber’s “Lincoln’s Constitution.” I’ve been saying for years that almost all books coming out today on Lincoln read like lawyers’ briefs for the Lincoln administration and are not real scholarship at all.
