In his excellent LRC article today Anthony Gregory notes that many people are afraid to compare anything to slavery. Well, I’m not. For many thousands of Americans, military consciption has been worse than slavery because, for them, it was essentially a death sentence. They were coerced to serve —and die –for the military. A slave can always hold out hope of escaping; a man cannot.
