While I was living there in 1975, Omaha got hit by a very destructive tornado. Within minutes after a particular neighborhood was damaged, police officials announced that looting was taking place, although a local radio station news director – who was on his way home in that same neighborhood – reported people going from house to house asking if anyone was inside who needed help.
