re: Harry Potter and Ron Paul

Writes Jon T: “I am rereading the sixth Harry Potter book in preparation for the seventh, and just so happened to come across an EXCELLENT example of how Harry Potter’s world closely parallels our own. In the Wizarding world, a ‘war’ is going on between the good and evil wizards. The government, at a loss of what to do, has tightened security measures and imprisoned three innocent people in order to seem like they are doing something. The Minister of Magic, desperate to fool the public, asks Harry Potter to ‘be seen popping in and out of the Ministry from time to time’ to ‘give the right impression.’ Harry’s brave reply to the Minister is, ‘Won’t that seem as though I approve of what the Ministry’s up to?’ The Minister tells him, ‘Some would say it’s your duty to be used by the Ministry!’ Harry says a little later, ‘You don’t care whether I live or die, but you do care that I help you convince everyone you’re winning the war against Voldemort.’

“Sounds a little familiar, doesn’t it? I tend to imagine the Minister as being Bush (or any other dispensable neocon).

“Very glad to know Rowling is on our side.”
