In light of the discussion of the bike helmetless mayor of London, I’ll note that in Florida it’s still legal to ride a motorcycle without a helmet. I consider this to be a good litmus test of the degree of totalitarianism in a state’s legislature. Florida has it share of political scoundrels and crooks, but it also has a libertarian streak. There is still no state income tax there, which is undoubtedly why our new U.S. Open golf champion, the incomparable Tiger Woods, resides there and not in his native California.
