Our Fierce Enemy

The newspapers and the internet are filled with images of tough-looking U.S. Marines with blackened faces, cigarettes hanging from their mouths, armed to the hilt, with explosions and billowing smoke in the distance. One would think it was the Battle of the Bulge all over again. Some of the pictures remind me of photos of one of my uncles who was an infantryman in Patton’s army.
