“One of The Last Truly Free Places in America” (Though They Still Pay Taxes, Alas)

from Wickenburg, Arizona.  This is possibly one of the last truly free places left in America.  We are (unfortunately) under the jurisdiction of 6-million-person Maricopa County.  The county, however, is almost 10,000 sq. miles, so we are located 45 minutes from the nearest population center and over an hour from the city of Phoenix – where corona-hysteria has reached an all-time high.  Out here, the old-school American mentality of freedom still reigns.  Despite a county-level mask mandate issued by our local overlords, it is very common to encounter bare-faced people who still give a good old-fashioned handshake and refuse to practice antisocial distancing.  In fact, in the grocery store the other night, I counted 9 patrons at the checkout (beside myself); only one was wearing a mask, and none were abiding by the floor stickers indicating the government-approved location where we are “safe” to stand in line.

My kinda people! I presume they also walk up the “wrong” aisles in those stores. Such fun flouting silly rules!
