Some of the ugly, depreciating, base-metal dollar coins are missing the government’s motto, “In God We Trust.” First used under Lincoln (who else?), the motto was officially adopted in 1956 at the height of the Cold War on Russia, to make clear the proper hierarchy: God The US government Everybody else.

Last night, NPR was moaning about the impending California budget genocide, and warned that if it weren’t settled, all state employees would get the minimum wage, and state reps. and senators and their staffs would get no pay at all. Now, what’s the downside of this crisis?
