The Just-in-time production method, pioneered by Toyota, saves money by keeping inventory to a minimum. But the 9.0 earthquake has gummed up the works for the iPad and iPhone, among many other products. Knowing the Japanese people, this will be fixed faster than it would be in any other country. But in the meantime, it is a problem.
