Like the makers of pressure-cookers and big pocketbooks, the companies that sell backpacks will be badly hurt by the government-media hysteria and possible banning. There is one silver lining, however: it is so sad to see children trudging to public school, where they clearly do not want to go, with backpacks full of heavy, government-mandated textbooks. Maybe backpack prohibition will hurt the textbook-industrial complex.
