Here are two examples of what I describe as ongoing “news” stories that are essentially propaganda/disinformation battles. They concern the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. In this particular case, I believe investigative journalist Robert Parry rather than the regime media’s New York Times. ‘Fraud’ Alleged in NYT’s MH-17 Report; and MH-17: Two Years of Anti-Russian Propaganda. But there is another flight virtually no one ever mentions or discusses: Siberia Airlines Flight 1812, a commercial flight shot down with no survivors by the Ukrainian Air Force over the Black Sea on 4 October 2001, en route from Tel Aviv, Israel to Novosibirsk, Russia.
And here is another ongoing story where dedicated and tenacious investigative reporters and researchers will have to diligently search and separate the wheat from the chaff, the hard documented facts from the dissembling lies and disinformation coming from authorities both in Turkey and/or the US. Currently the spin doctors are dominating this narrative. So much “news” unfortunately has fallen in this turgid category, particularly about the Ukraine (the downed airliner story above comes to mind), flight KAL 007 (here and here), the Boston Marathon bombers, and the grand daddy of them all, the JFK assassination and coup d’etat of November 22, 1963.
Over the years studying the published history about the Comintern’s Willi Münzenberg and his propaganda/espionage NKVD/GRU apparat, and of the CIA’s Operation Mockingbird network of journalists and media assets, has made me jaded and suspicious, sadder but wiser about such matters. Things are not always what they seem or as initially “reported.” But I still believe that eventually truth will out, and the good guys will win in the final reel of the movie.
