New York Times Consolidates and Rebrands
Just as the flagging General Motors has had to drop some of its brands in recent years (i.e., Saturn, Hummer, and Pontiac) to shore up the core brands, The New York Times is now dropping its International Herald Tribune brand and renaming it the International New York Times. The NYT press release is very upbeat about it, of course, but it’s just the latest move from a company that has been slashing its news room staff repeatedly in recent years.
