NASA to Spend $6.77 Billion to Send Astronauts into Deep Space

While roads and bridges go unrepaired and air traffic controllers use outdated equipment. NASA is obsessed with getting to Mars. Said NASA Administrator Charles Bolden: “Orion is a key piece of the flexible architecture that will enable humanity to set foot on the Red Planet, and we are committed to building the spacecraft and other elements necessary to make this a reality.”

Conservatives here in Florida love NASA. They are always complaining about Obama cutting the agency’s budget. And when they moan about the size and expense of the federal government and say that welfare should be cut, they never, never, never question NASA’s budget. Just like they never, never, never question the size of the defense budget. In fact, the billions spent on defense (really offense) are never, never, never enough. Conservatives love federal jobs programs just as much as liberals. They just have certain programs they favor more than others.

Update: A reader comments that he “wouldn’t mind being robbed to pay for this if, instead, they sent every member of Congress, the supreme Court, and the President to Mars permanently.” Amen to that.
