More on Conservatives and Libertarians

I mentioned yesterday about the government grants for studying snail sex and faith-based gardens. Conservatives are good at pointing out things like this and criticizing liberals for them. Where they fall short, however, is in condemning government grants in the first place. Conservatives would generally have no problem with government grants to find a cure for cancer or some other “noble” cause. It is only when the grants are ludicrous that they generally get upset. It is just like funding for the NEA. If the grants fund pornographic art, then conservatives get upset, but if they fund a portrait of Reagan, then all is well. Only libertarians are consistent advocates of liberty and limited government.
