American governments at every level—federal, state, county, municipal—are nauseatingly corrupt, brutal and oppressive. Now a new study reveals how much the average serf pays over his lifetime for all that corruption, brutality, and oppression. It then ranks each state and the District of Criminals–sorry, Columbia from most thieving to least. Its methodology relies on

the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ expenditure numbers to see what we as Americans were spending each day to work out what taxes we would be paying … It’s a lot.

That’s the understatement of the decade. If you’re like me, you already loathe Leviathan with every fiber of your being, so you can’t despise this űber-wasteful beast any more than you already do.
