Televised car chases have become so passe that even television dullards no longer find them of interest. Television helicopters and cameras have left the freeways and taken to airport runways in search of the latest form of intellectual disengagement: airplanes making emergency landings. At least three of such “events” have taken over network channels in recent weeks each, fortunately, without loss of life.
