“Semi-libertarian” (according to some libertarians) Deirdre McCloskey has joined a group of socialist economists (or do I repeat myself) who are publicly supporting He of the Expensive Coif–John Edwards.
“We support John Edwards because as economists, we seek effective public policy aimed at sustained growth, full employment, an end to poverty, and progress toward solving the major social and environmental problems associated with health care, education, trade, taxation and climate change.”
In other words, more destructive social engineering. Some “semi-libertarian”. Utterly disgusting.
As she notes (“admits”?),
“The oddest personal fact about me is that I was until 1995 “Donald.” I have written on the matter, especially the account of my transition, 1994-98, Crossing: A Memoir (U. of Chicago Press, 1999; NY Times Notable Book). But that’s merely the oddest instance of a longstanding insistence on finding my own peculiar — or at any rate particular — way in our intellectual culture. I describe myself as a postmodern free-market quantitative rhetorical Episcopalian feminist Aristotelian woman who was once a man. Such positions are not adopted merely to shock the bourgeoisie. On the contrary, I believe they are the only reasonable positions!”
Yes, supporting Edwards is only “reasonable,” for a “postmodern free-market quantitative rhetorical Episcopalian feminist Aristotelian woman who was once a man”. Whatever.
Someone just recommended to me I read one of McCloskey’s books. “Good insights” or whatever. Yeah, I expect good insights from a moron who could support John Edwards! Give me a break. (BTW, are we sure McCloskey is not just a Phil Hendrie character?)
