So to McCain, Obama–as a non-veteran–cannot comment on veterans affairs. The Republicans do it so well, as at Walter Reed. Of course, the actual point is to make federal military employment the highest calling, a totalitarian impulse. The clergy, entrepreneurs, scholars, teachers, artists, musicians, workers, etc. all have far higher callings. Indeed, while defending a society from aggression is magnificent, enabling an empire to dominate others is not. Nor does bombing innocent civilians, being arrested, jailed, and subjected, allegedly, to enhanced interrogation techniques, make you a hero, let alone being a third-generation tax-eater.
