As our Reich-wing government continues to expand markets for its principal export (i.e., war) it is timely to recall Milton Mayer’s classic study of ordinary Germans immediately following the end of World War II. He wondered what it must have been like living under the tyrannical dictatorship of Adolf Hitler. His questioning of numerous German people provided the consistent answer that became the title of his book: They Thought They Were Free!
