Subject: Thank You

Dr. Block, JK here – we met in person at the Mises 30th in Warm Springs,
Georgia a few years ago, but have corresponded before. I helped move
LRC into its present WordPress site, and have written for LRC from
time to time. At the Mises, you gave me your son’s business card and I
dully contacted him about marketing his software, and discussed why a
certain subset of libertarians revert to statism.

All that aside, I’m writing to say thanks. I just read your blog post
on evictionism, a view that I agree with and have been espousing when
and where appropriate for some time. What struck me most is the calm
and even tenor with which you address your critics. Your constant,
steady manner, even when faced with ad hominem attacks is as
impressive as your scholarship. The world could use a little more
Blockian argumentation and manly reserve. Thank you for both. Sincerely, JK

Dear JK: Wow. What a lovely letter. It made my day. Every once in a while I think, maybe I shouldn’t be answering all these queries made to me. I do so because I emulate Murray Rothbard. He, too, had a vast correspondence with all sort of people, asking him about Austrian economics and libertarian theory. On the other hand, I might have written a few dozen articles and a book or two instead. Sometimes, I think I should stop responding to letters, and do more scholarly work. And, then, a letter like yours comes along, and I rethink my position. I’m now 75 years old, and have only so much more time to contribute to these two beloved callings of mine, so I’m not sure of what to do. Thanks, again, for you letter. Best regards, Walter
