Had the “intelligence” community followed the law and keep quiet, Trump would have no immediate malfeasance to point to as he removes the malefactors root and branch. With the flood of leaks – many of them manufactured (“gross canards cut out of whole cloth,” as Mr. Justice Goldberg would say) – the new president now has a solid basis for a thoroughgoing cleansing and subsequent reform of the agencies based on 1) what the country really needs, and 2) what is legal.
