Living Up to Politicians’ Expectations

Scott Evans responded to “Essential” Strip Clubs, Dirty Dishes and Tingling Ears with this withering assessment of the American Church:

Painful as it might be for us to give the enemy credit where credit is due, can we honestly point to ANYTHING that the majority of churchian franchises have done this year, the year of COVID and civil unrest, in which they’ve proven themselves a cut above superfluous, let alone essential? I’m trying hard to recall something, ANYTHING, but I’m going to stop because I see smoke coming out of my ears.

Also, if we were really honest with ourselves, wouldn’t we have to give strip clubs credit for honesty and truth in advertising that we would have to deny most church(ian franchis)es? A strip club makes it obvious to its customers what they’re going to get when they go inside, and they usually always deliver, knowing that failure to do so will result in their going out of business in short order. Churches, on the other hand, ostensibly are places of worship of the Lord Jesus Christ and fellowship with those who worship and obey Him. However, most churches pull a “bait and switch” and serve lukewarm Moralistic Therapeutic Deism, mixed in with a little temporal culture and some temporal politics. Which of the two organizations is more honest and true to its mission? That any of us even have to point this out or ask the associated rhetorical questions is very discouraging, to put it kindly.

Speaking of strip clubs (because really, how often do we here at LRC?!), here’s a ministry that introduces their performers (many of whom have survived sexual abuse and long to leave their profession) to Jesus Christ.
