Back in 2003, a rump claque of Catholics defied Pope John Paul II and supported W’s immoral (as well as idiotic) invasion of Iraq.
Saint John Paul II was right – he warned Bush that the war would cause chaos, and it has – chaos which prevails to this day.
Even Jeb! Now admits the invasion was wrong.
But mimicking their more prominent neocon cheerleaders, these Catholics have never apologized. Now, one of them – curiously the author of an able biography of the saintly pope – is still at it, demanding that Americans make it our “cause” to go to war with Russia and to save the government of Ukraine, one of the most corrupt in the world.
Another immoral war, he asserts, will make the West more moral. Once more, cognitive dissonance rules.
Curiously, the author complains that the West has become “flaccid.” But he doesn’t tell us why – because the immoral wars he champions have drained the US of its blood and treasure and created for us new enemies in every time zone (and alas, every US zip code).
What did he expect?
We’ll never know: they are always wrong, and they never, ever apologize.
