My favorite quote dealing with Curtis LeMay came during the 1968 presidential race, when he was George Wallace’s running mate. LeMay had talked rather blithely to a horrified press at a news conference about using nuclear weapons on North Vietnam to end the war in Indochina. Later, someone on the compaign — it may have been Wallace himself — reportedly told LeMay to “Keep your mouth shut and your bowels open.”
