Islamic Terror Attacks on Christians

Murder is utterly wrong. When terrorists murder and wound innocents, this is utterly wrong. Unambiguously wrong, no matter who does it to whom. Yet, there is less of a worldwide sympathetic outpouring for Islamic terror attacks on Christians than for events like the New Zealand massacre.

Islamic attacks on Christians are less noted and less publicized. Yet Islamic terror attacks on Christians are numerous and deadly. See here for a long list.

(A list of Islamist attacks in toto is here.)

The list may be biased and incomplete, but it’s adequate to ask a question: Why is there this difference in worldwide publicity and reaction?

Let’s suggest some possibilities. One factor is that the countries in which most Islamic attacks on Christians occur are majority non-white. They are places like Nigeria, Indonesia, the Philippines, Lebanon and Iraq. These do not get as much coverage from Western media.

Then too, the attacks are more frequent. Typically, fewer lives are taken in each attack. Yet there are still many attacks in which the death toll is large. For example, 42 were killed in the Bria attack in the Central African Republic this past September. These are not publicized. A Google search on “Bria attack” doesn’t turn up any links to the New York Times or such major Western news sources.

“The Gwoza massacre was a terrorist event that occurred on 2 June 2014 in the Gwoza local government district, Borno State near the Nigerian-Camerounian border.” This took anywhere from 400 to 2,000 lives. The list cited earlier lists 997 killed. Where was the worldwide reaction to this event?

Perhaps certain events garner more attention because the terrorist produces a detailed manifesto. We read “New Zealand Shooter’s Manifesto Resembles Norway Mass Murderer’s”.

Another explanation is that leftist media are biased against Christians and give a pass to Islam. This is supported by the leftist noise made about “Islamophobia”. This is also supported by the publicity the left-wing media give to terror perpetrated by right-wing extremists. The left-wing media almost seem happy when they can pin the label of right-wing extremist on a terrorist (or any group for that matter), while they ignore the terrorists who are killing Christians and Muslims and Jews too. Let us not forget that Muslim upon Muslim terrorist activity has been huge.

Leftist bias reflects a religious/political divide. The Republican Party typically receives a healthy majority of Christian votes, while the Democratic Party receives an even larger majority of voters without religious affiliation. Leftist media may tend to ignore violence against Christians because their writers and commentators do not share either the political or the religious views of Christians.

Perhaps Christian churches have been so busy trying to be tolerant of Islam (politically correct) that they effectively disarmed themselves from condemning Islamic terrorists. They didn’t want to be labeled as Islamophobic.

Political correctness attempts to erase from discourse certain characteristics that may or may not be pertinent. They should be reported. It may or may not be pertinent to learn that a terrorist is Muslim, pro-Hitler, a Jew, a teenager, an atheist, mentally deranged, anti-abortion, pro-abortion, Hispanic, African-American, old, handicapped, on prescription drugs, a felon, a troublemaker, a female, bearded, bald, or whatever. If media filter out characteristics because of political correctness, it makes it harder for us to figure out what an event means or portends.
