The Atlanta press today heralds the Georgia governor’s new budget. He is expanding spending by $1 billion–the biggest increase ever–and promises much more. The legislature also cheers him. Need I mention that the governor is a Republican, and that the house and senate, for the first time since the federal occupation, are Republican too? Conservatives and the religious right, under Republican chairman Ralph “the Weasel” Reed, add their hosannas.
