Go-o-o-o-od Morning, Rochester!

I will host the Mike Deming Show tomorrow morning from 8-9 AM EST.  Mr. Deming graciously shares his microphone with me on alternate Fridays, but tomorrow he’s turning the entire  program over to me, heh heh.

I’ll be chatting with Dr. E. Calvin Beisner, founder of and National Spokesman for the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation. The Alliance is “a network of evangelical theologians, scientists, and economists working to promote Biblical Earth stewardship, economic development for the poor, and the proclamation and defense of the gospel of Christ,” as Dr. Beisner puts it. He’s written a book on this topic. And he’s also thought a lot about the account of Joseph in Genesis, the subject we’ll discuss.

I have long puzzled over the fact that while the Bible promotes liberty and even anarchism, Joseph clearly enjoys God’s blessing despite his totalitarian reign in Egypt. During seven years of famine, Joseph trades starving people grain for their lands — grain, by the way, that he taxed away from them — until Pharaoh owns all the acreage and even the Egyptians themselves. Why would a God Who loves freedom honor such exploitation and enslavement? Is there such a thing as a “righteous” dictator?

It should be a rousing discussion, and I hope you’ll join us. A special welcome to those of you who live in Rochester, New York. And tune in to Mike each weekday morning for commentary on and condemnation of Our Rulers.
