Subject: Case for discrimination

I just finished reading your book “A case for discrimination.” Thank you for all your wonderful enlightening work. I am a medical doctor in New Jersey. I was born and raised in rather meager circumstances and now I find myself in the so called one percent. I pay over half my income in taxes. I wonder? (I say this tongue in cheek partially joking) Do you think I could bring a lawsuit against the state of New Jersey and the US federal gov alleging that those institutions are violating my civil rights by making me subject to a progressive income tax and discriminating against me on the basis of income? Thanks MF

Dear MF: Thanks for your kind words. Sure, you could bring a lawsuit on that ground. However, I very much doubt you’d win. However, you’d create great hilarity for a bunch of bureaucrats. I fear this would be considered by them to be a frivolous lawsuit, as we both full well know. Nevertheless, I think it would be justified. If there were any justice, you would win this case. But, then, if there were any justice, you wouldn’t have to launch it in the first place.
