Those who might not have fleshed out the establishment’s meaning of “freedom” might want to take a look at the 1942 Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire musical, “Holiday Inn.” In his Independence Day skit, Crosby comes onstage to sing a song titled “Freedom.” On a screen behind him is a montage made up almost entirely of film clips of battleships, bombers and fighter planes, bomber assembly plants, soldiers marching, paratroopers, General MacArthur, FDR, and the American flag.
