About twenty years ago, I gave a satirical talk in which I painted an American government so devoted to “freedom” that it decided to have a “mandatory freedom exercise” program. In order to preserve our “freedom,” people would be required to report to a government facility, once a year, to exercise their “freedom.” Each person would be led into an empty room where they would be obliged to give a speech.
