Fix the Damn Budget Deficit

Here’s the real scoop on Whitmer’s Michigan, folks.

She has run up a financial deficit that is near catastrophic. The deficit, as Nolan Finley explains, could be as much as a quarter of the total General Fund. Not only does she not have enough $$$ in the Rainy Day Fund to steal to cover the deficit, but if she were to do so there would be severe consequences for the state’s bond rating, and that would potentially torpedo her ability to fix the damn roads because she needs to be able to sell damn road construction bonds to have the damn dough to fix the damn roads.

Policymakers have just over five months to address a deficit pegged at between $1.5 billion and $3.5 billion, depending on how much longer the lockdown lasts and how quickly Michigan businesses recover.
